This film is a journey through the history of the tropical band Los Cumaná, founded in 1970 in the port city of Coquimbo, Chile. In the midst of the popularization of cumbia in South America, this band burst the local music scene with a new musical style and original compositions. They recorded six LPs between 1970 and 1976 and went on tour throughout the North of Chile and also abroad: Peru, the United States and Belgium. Their intense and rich music career was shaped not only by their rapid success but also by the harsh difficulties they had to face, as a provincial band, towards the music industries and the political context of the time. Centred on testimonies and a wide range of archive material and songs, the film also invites to reflect on local popular music heritage and the life of little known musicians
